The Boys and Girls Club of Diboll will be able to see some needed repairs done and some regular programs continued thanks to an award from the T.L.L. Temple Foundation Keeler Grant Program. The $50,000 grant will be used in three areas.
Approximately $30,000 will go toward facility repairs. These will include painting on the exterior of the building and work on the air conditioning system.
According to Jeff Woods, president and CEO of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Deep East Texas, one air conditioner unit will be completely replaced, and other units will get some much-needed repair.
The after-school homework lab is designated for $10,000 of the grant. This is where students are tutored and mentored each afternoon to help them with their homework.
“It is what we call our Homework Power Hour,” said Woods. “The primary expenditures will be computer-related, either enhancements to equipment or updates in software that will assist the students on homework.”
The last $10,000 will help the club continue feeding students each day. During the summer, attendees are served breakfast and lunch, and during the school year, they get an afternoon snack.
“We’re very appreciative of the funds from the Temple Foundation’s Keeler Grant Program,” Woods said. “They have been very supportive for years. We probably couldn’t do what we do without them.”
