“… In My Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?And if I go and prepare a place for you,I will come back and welcome you into My presence, so that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.”— John 14:2-4
We were frantically running around the house making sure nothing was forgotten. We went through our lists multiple times. I think we have everything! The preparation and all the work is for our vacation. Greg, the kids, and I have been anxiously awaiting our trip and are very excited. We cannot wait to get away from home, get away from the day to day stressors, and just relax.
Our family vacation usually consists of going to the beach. We love to watch the ocean waves, feel the breeze, and feel the sand between our toes. Greg likes the coast so he can cook fresh seafood, the kids enjoy swimming and building sand castles, and I enjoy finally getting to paint. (When we are at the beach is really the only time I have to relax and truly not feel guilty for indulging in time for myself to paint.) This year is a little different. Not only are we going, but my extended family is going too – which is something that hasn’t happened in years. I am excited to have my family join us.
Greg and I have had multiple conversations like: “When we get to the beach…” and “I can’t wait until we get to the beach.” The kids say, “I am ready to go so we can play on the waterslide” or “I want to play in the ocean.” Truthfully, we are all very excited and absolutely cannot wait!
All this anticipation and excitement is just for a week long trip. It is fun to get away from home and relax, but we will have to return to our home and jobs when it ends. Life will return to normal and our routines will return. We will go back to life until the next vacation, but what if we focused anticipation and excitement on our trip that will happen one day? We will all be traveling to Heaven to live with our Father. We will not have to return to the “grime of daily living” and will spend eternity in blissful praise. Thanks be to God for having a place prepared for us. Thank you Lord for loving us so much that you created our forever home, our happy place for eternity.
