The Diboll Jackbackers’ annual Meet the Jacks is just around the corner – Friday, Aug. 5, at the high school gymnasium.
The event — which introduces the football, volleyball and cross country teams, as well the band, cheerleaders and Dazzlers – won’t end with the introductions. The Jackbackers have added a Movie Night to the event.
Following Meet the Jacks, the community can make their way over to Lumberjack Stadium to see “Woodlawn” for free. A large-screen projection system will be set up at mid-field to offer various seating options. Blankets or lawn chairs can be used at field level, with additional seating available in the bleachers.
“Woodlawn” is based on the true story about a high school football team from Birmingham, Ala., in the early 1970s. It’s an inspirational film that is rated PG and is a must-see for the entire family, assure event organizers.
The concession stand will be open for the entire event, so no outside food or beverages will be allowed into the stadium. The Jackbackers will also be offering a split-the-pot fundraiser, which will be drawn for at the end of the movie; as well as T-shirt /Lumberjack swag sales; reserved parking spot auction bid signup; painted axe sales; football program advertisement sales; and Diboll Jackbacker membership registrations.
The Diboll Jackbackers is a non-profit organization made up of parents and other community-minded individuals who support all the athletic programs at Diboll High School. All of the proceeds we bring in each year are returned to the athletics department and student athletes at Diboll High School through various contributions. These have ranged from purchasing grass and field conditioners for the baseball/ softball fields, golf bags for the golf team, nets for the soccer fields, batting equipment for the softball teams, student-athlete scholarships for qualified individuals each year and more.
