“When God began to create the heavens and the earth — the earth was without shape or form.” – Genesis 1:1-2.
It’s here! The new school year quickly crept up on us! Here at the Terrell house, there are a variety of emotions. Mike’s jealousy is almost over, and he is happy that we will all have to get up and actually do things since he’s had to all summer. I am sad and very confused about where my summer went; however, I’m really excited to see what’s in store with a new group of students. Emma, now in 2nd grade, is very excited and even claims she’s looking forward to homework. Eli is anxious to be around friends and wants nothing to do with homework. And then there’s Ellie. She will be starting school for the first time. When her Nana asked her if she could be good at school, Ellie said she didn’t think she could and she probably shouldn’t go to big school. (If you’d like to send some extra prayers for the teachers of the Terrell children, they will probably need them.) Meet the Teacher night went well. The kids LOVE their teachers already! It’s sure to be a great year.
I absolutely love the Back to School commercials that have taken over the television lately. The one with the little girl looking in the mirror and saying something like, “Last year, I was like ‘HEY,’ but this year I’m like, ‘WHAT’S UP?’” really makes me laugh. It does seem true to the kids. Emma said last year she wanted to be more girly, even though she never did. This year she wants to be “cool and comfy” in her tee’s and jeans. It’s a new year, and you can try a new you if you want.
It’s the same in the classroom. The teachers look at the new students like they are freshly clean sponges ready to soak up all of the knowledge that they are going to give. They’re blank slates with endless possibilities! As you go throughout the new school year, or if you just want to start fresh with Him, let God be the one to help form and shape you!
