Vernon ‘Red’ Albert Oaks
Services for Vernon “Red” Albert Oaks, 74, of Diboll, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 19, 2013 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Vic Bass, Bro. Roy Hall, and Bro. Kenny Hibbs officiating. Interment will follow in the Emporia Cemetery in Diboll.
Mr. Oaks was born July 9, 1939 in Fastrill, Texas, the son of the late Lottie Mae (Wright) and Willie Albert Oaks. He passed away Monday, September 16, 2013 at his residence.
Mr. Oaks was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
He attended school in Diboll. He joined the United States Navy and served on an oiler ship. During his Navy service, he married Ezzie Williams in 1963. He loved his family, church and friends. He was formerly on the Diboll school board, coached Little League baseball and was an avid Diboll Lumberjacks fan. He loved building birdhouses, hunting, fishing, camping, and being outdoors – he was a true sportsman. Mr. Oaks was instrumental in building Lakeview Baptist Church on FM 2497. He was a member of Jubilee Baptist Church of Diboll.
Survivors include his wife of 49-3/4 years, Ezzie Oaks; daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Randy Hambrick and Cindy and Andy Parish; granddaughter, Emily Parish; granddaughters and grandsons-in-law, Felicia and James Johnson, Traci and Andrew Hall and Hannah and Richard Hughes; great-grandchildren, Josie Hambrick, Lillie Johnson, Chesnie “C J” Johnson, Bryce Johnson and Haylee Johnson; very special friend, Travis Parish; mother-in-law, Myrtle Williams; sister-in-law, Valeria Oaks; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Donna Williams; and a number of nephews, nieces, other family members, and friends.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Oaks was preceded in death by his grandson, Joseph M. Hambrick; and brothers, Richie and John Oaks.
Pallbearers will be, Joe Calhoun, Jason Stuck, Chris Hambrick, Alvin Parish, Gary Martel and Charlie Mann.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at Gipson Funeral Home.
