Garden Club celebrates fall
With fall decorations and the scent of apples and cinnamon filling the room at the T.L.L. Temple Memorial Library on Tuesday, Nov. 12, Diboll Garden Club members were greeted with delicious refreshments provided by hostesses Sue Beaty, Chubby Slack and Kathy Sample.
The featured speaker was Donna Dorman, a designer with Alene’s Florist in Lufkin, who demonstrated the making of wreaths, tabletop designs and other Christmas decorations by using natural greenery along with purchased materials. She made it look so effortless!
The business meeting followed. Kathy Townes was unanimously approved as a new member of the club. The Christmas luncheon will be held at the home of Mary Ingram on Dec. 17, and members were urged to wear “ugly” Christmas sweaters to provide some fun. Food items will be collected at the luncheon to be given to the Diboll Christian Outreach to supplement their food gift bags to those in need.
An annual project of the club is to provide cakes for the Senior Citizens Christmas luncheon to be held on Dec. 11, and members volunteered to participate in this effort. Recognition was given to Mary Ingram, Peggy Burt, Garvis Baldree and Kathy Sample for their decorating skills in garnering a First Place award for the Diboll Garden Club in the annual scarecrow decorating contest sponsored by the library, the second year in a row for this top award.
Dianne Gibson was thanked for her years of maintaining the club’s scrapbook, which was on display for members to browse through. Peggy Burt volunteered to assume this duty from Dianne.
The 26 members in attendance were Garvis Baldree, Sue Beaty, Clara Breazeale, Peggy Burt, Ginger Capps, Joyce Carr, Dianne Gibson, Bettye Greer, Nita Hurley, Carolyn Hutson, Mary Ingram, Marcia Jones, Sophie Lenderman, Louise Maxwell, Linda Miller, Gloria Neal, Gloria Ogden, JoAnn Rainwater, Billie Robison, Kathy Sample, Chubby Slack, Gay Storch, Ima Weisinger, Dolly Whitaker, Tellie Williams, and Billie Willmon.
