The Diboll Lumberjacks survived a third-quarter surge to defeat Woodville 54-41 Tuesday at home, going 4-0 on the young season.

Diboll led 27-14 at halftime, going on a 13-4 run to finish the second quarter.

However, Woodville (1-3) cut that lead to 27-20 in the first 1 minute, 20 seconds of the third quarter.

Diboll’s Brandon Mitchell stopped the Woodville run with an offensive rebound and put-back. From there the teams pretty much swapped buckets and Diboll led 38-32 heading into the fourth quarter.

Woodville cut the lead to 38-34 and then to 40-39. Mitchell again kept Woodville at bay, this time with a drive to the hoop and a layup. Chas Walls helped nail down the win with two 3-pointers within about a minute and a half of play to put Diboll up 50-39 with 3 minutes to play in the game.

Sammy Scott led the Diboll scoring with 12 points, and Patrick Johnson and Walls each scored 11. Tyrone Sias and Brandon Mitchell scored 6 points each, and Jesse Villanueva and A.J. Moreland each scored 4.

The Jacks play at Tatum on Friday.

The Diboll JV lost 48-42 to Woodville. Hargrove led Diboll (3-1) with 16 points.

Lady Jacks

The Diboll Lady Jacks lost in overtime 67-65 at third-ranked Central Heights on Tuesday.

Mia Williams led the Lady Jacks with 25 points and 5 steals. Also contributing for Diboll were Lexxus Hamilton, 14 points; Tiffany Simmons, 11 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists; Kamry Mott, 6 points, 7 rebounds, 4 steals; Shayla Hubbard, 5 points, 3 assists; and Kyla Cunningham, 4 points, 5 rebounds.

The Lady Jacks begin play in the Hudson Tournament at 12:40 p.m. Thursday.

Diboll’s JV defeated Central Heights 44. Mya Ward led Diboll with (22 points, 8 rebounds snd 6 steals.

The JV will play at 8 a.m. Thursday in the Hudson Tournament.
