George A. Ross

Funeral services for George A. Ross, 82, of Central, were held Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Joe G. Bradberry and Erin Hearn officiating.  Graveside services were at 12 Noon Tuesday in the Attoyac Cemetery in San Augustine County.
Mr. Ross was born November 6, 1931 in the Sardis Community of Cherokee County, Texas to the late Eva (Kinny) and George A. Ross, Sr.  He died Easter Sunday, April 20, 2014 at his residence.
Mr. Ross retired from the Lufkin State School as the Laundry Manager and had lived in the Central Community since 1966.  He enjoyed his grandchildren, gardening, hunting and fishing.  Mr. Ross served his country in the United States Army in the 140th Tank Battalion during the Korean Conflict.  He was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Shirley Wall Ross of Central; daughters and sons-in-law, Robin and Ron Crocker of Lufkin, Monique and Joe Egan of Boerne, and Adrienne and William Warren of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Rhonda Ross of Central; grandchildren and spouses, Marc and Amanda Crocker, Casey Weeks, Erin and Justin Hearn, Chase and Callie Crocker, Whitney and Chris Wright, Heather and Josh Harrison, Shelby Egan, Hunter Ross, and Tanner Ross; great grandchildren, Taylor Crocker, Presley Wright, and Payton Lynn Crocker; sister, Ruth Scott of Longview; brother and sister-in-law, Howard and Shirley Ross of Maydelle; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Mr. Ross was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Earl and Vernon; and sister, Bernice Roper.
Pallbearers were Mr. Ross’ grandsons.  Honorary pallbearers were Jim Pliner and Jerry Hyden.
