Cesley Elton Higgins

Services for Cesley Elton Higgins, 95, of Lufkin were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 21, 2014 at the Elwyn M. Gipson Memorial Chapel in Garden of Memories Memorial Park. Interment was in Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Mr. Higgins was born November 8, 1918 in Keltys, Angelina County, the son of the late Pearl (Hill) and Milton Higgins. He passed away April 18, 2014 at his residence.
He attended school in Lufkin and married Nell Jones on July 24, 1941. He worked at the paper mill as a paper maker until his retirement in 1984 after 42 years of service. In his earlier years at the paper mill, he was drafted into the Navy and served his country as an aviation metal- smith. He loved and was devoted to his wife, Nell, for 72 years. He loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandson. He loved fishing and hunting and was an avid fisherman with his fishing buddy, Clifford Trevathan. He had a great sense of humor and a quiet, easy-going nature.
He is survived by wife, Nell Higgins of Lufkin; daughter, Lisa Blanco of Wharton, TX; granddaughter, Lauren Blanco of El Campo, TX; grandson, Ethan Blanco of San Marcus, TX; great-grandson, Michael Salazar of El Campo, TX; sister, Farah Dean Beaty of Lufkin, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by son, David Elton Higgins; brothers, Ottis Higgins and Cuthbert Higgins; sisters, Vera Williams and Era Mae McAdams.
Pallbearers were Morris McAdams, Melvin McAdams, Charles Evans, Russell Cummings, John Raymond McAdams and Terry Trevathan.
Honorary pallbearers were George Taylor, Dick McKay, Ken McPherson, Donald Anderson, Danny Standley, David Standley and Bo McDuffy.
The family received friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
